Opayo has revealed an integration with Apple Pay following confirmation by Tim Cook during the keynote for the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that the service will be coming to the UK this July.
While it’s been almost a year since the service was launched in the US, Opayo’s Innovation Team has been conducting Beta testing in the last month to ensure all of its card terminals can accept Apple Pay transactions when it makes its way across the Atlantic.
Apple Pay is the first mainstream example of higher value contactless payments, where a finger-print is used to increase the security of a ‘pin-less’ transaction. It’s also the first viable use of biometrics for the consumer market.
Opayo’s recent 2015 Payments Landscape Report revealed that consumers are more likely to shop in places with a better range of, or more innovative, payments methods. The announcement of Opayo’s integration means all of its UK customers will be ready to accept Apple Pay payments, helping them meet this demand and ultimately convert more sales.
While the report found that 1 in 4 businesses would consider using Apple Pay, its typically user-friendly package coupled with Apple’s brand power means it likely won’t be long before consumers feel comfortable paying with their finger prints.
“The coming of Apple Pay to the UK is just one part of the macro shift we’re seeing to cashless payments types,” said Sean Wilson, Managing Director of Opayo UK. “Although consumer demand for it hasn’t yet reached the heights usually associated with new Apple products, businesses need to be ready to offer them the choice and convenience of paying their way to avoid missing out on potential sales. That’s why our Innovation Team has been working tirelessly to make sure all of our customers can do exactly that come July.”
