What is Strong Customer Authentication?

Strong Customer Authentication makes payments more secure for both your business and the customer by adding an extra layer of protection known as two-factor authentication (2FA). When SCA comes into effect, customers will be required to provide at least two of the following forms of identification when making a payment which includes, something the customer knows such as a pin or password, something the customer possesses such as a smartphone or something the person is such as biometric fingerprints

The first step to achieving SCA compliance is to activate 3D Secure within your MySagePay account. Those on our PI or Direct integration will need to undertake some additional development.

SCA implementation timeline

The current version of 3D Secure will continue to be supported until the of 2020 where 3DSv2 becomes mandatory worldwide. The deadline for ecommerce compliance is 31st December in Europe and the 14th September 2021 in the UK respectively. Keep up to date with any changes using the timeline below.
