What checks are carried out by Fraud Screening

When a transaction is processed through the Opayo system, the details of that individual payment are passed through to Opayo’s fraud screening service for analysis to be carried out. 

Featurespace checks all available information for each transaction, including Personal, Payment, and Address information.

They then screen this information to identify any suspicious behaviour or where there is high risk.

Some of the parameters that are screened are: 


Card Details - 
 
The fraud screening system will use the card details provided by the customer.  Such as frequency, volume of use etc. 
Fraud prevention tools -  The results of the AVS - Address & Postcode, CV2 - 3 digit security code on reverse of card.

3D Secure - 
 
The results of the 3D Secure fraud prevention checks - otherwise known as Verified by VISA and MasterCard Secure Code

Address information - 
 
Details on both the billing & delivery address that have been provided with the transaction, how often these details are used, have they been seen together, and has the card been used with these addresses previously.

Historical information - 
 
An in depth look at all of the transactional information that has been provided and analysis on the fraud screening platform to highlight any previous uses either individually or together. 

Transaction value - 
 
The value of the transaction is also used as part of the scoring - it compares previous transactions using the same credentials to see average value of transactions.

 

Alongside this the fraud screening tool also checks over 100 different variables to provide you with a score, and a rating for each transaction.  As well as validating the details the shopper has provided fraud screening also looks at a number of other parameters to build score:

  • Who is making the transaction? 
  • What are they buying? 
  • Where is it to be delivered? 
  • When was it ordered and when will it be delivered?

The information that is validated by fraud screening is solely based on details provided with the transaction.  If any of the shopper’s information differs from the details they have provided with the transaction the score will not be valid.

The scores that are provided to you are based exclusively on the information that is submitted with the transaction.  Details of the e-mail, delivery address, phone numbers, and IP addresses must be provided wherever possible.
